Mine's the 2018 edition, smart dress watch. Cheap as well, £400 I think at the time. Usually prefer the 43mm bezel of the other two (Topograph, not Perigraph), but the Max Bill is bloody lovely at that size

Junghans Max Bill Chrono is one of the watches I've been meaning to get forever but never pulled the trigger. Beautiful watches.

German over Swiss for me, mainly based on design, value for money - got a Meistersinger No.3, Sternglas Perigraph, and a Junghans Max Bill. Can't imagine not wearing a watch!

Re: Do you still wear a watch?
The watch I wear everyday is a Second World war issued watch to the German army. It is identical to the WW2 British army watches (those Swiss ehh!) but at a fraction of the price. Google 'dirty dozen watches' if you're interested.

Mine is very reliable and in good condition so probably worn by some staff officer in Berlin behind a desk but if only it could talk...

Yep cellular iWatch. The omega just sits in the cupboard

Re: Do you still wear a watch?
Watches for me are less about telling the time and more about them just being proper amazingly built beautiful things that are nothing to do with modern day cuntery and are quite a statement of individuality. To just take one off and never wear it again is a bit of a shame.

Interesting.

Did you have to go through a 'weaning off' period, or were you able to forget about it as easily as physically taking it off?

I have only had gaps of longish holidays so far in the last 20/30 years, but I still find it odd and unsettling not to have a watch on, even on the beach when I really don't need it.

I'm sure I will find it much easier to give up the phone/emails. Before Covid I was leaving it at home more and more often anyway.

Re: Do you still wear a watch?
Retired at 55 in July 2010. Took my watch off the same day.

Only worn it once or twice since then for special occassions.

I've no need to know what time it is anymore or indeed what day it is.

It's a bit breezy in Canada for a convertible, so assume you're referring to the watch?

Day / work watch is a 25 year old Rotary. My wife paid £125 for my birthday to get it fixed recently which is more than it cost.

Dress watch is a Tiissot.

You're right. They do have some absolute shockers too.

I also agree with your last sentence. Watches to suck up some of the excess money floating about.

I do! I collect my Seiko 5s and Orients. Still own my great-grand fathers pocket Omegas. I understand that some people consider them obsolete, but phone or iwatch is like so many things nowadays…completely soulless. You don’t want to know what your grandchildren going to think about our cell phones in 100 years.

Richard Mille is the brand for that nowadays.

Used to be Jacob & co (although they often are interesting/unique for one reason or another)

I don't think many people actually like what most of them look like, they're just purely for opulence and telling the world you're loaded

I have a small collection. Couple of Breitlings (Superocean steelfish and bentley GT), Tudor Black Bay, Tag Heuer Aquaracer, A bell and ross, A few cheaper chinese, and my ORIS Aquis GMT which is my daily beater.

For me, an automatic mechincal watch is the last thing that we carry about daily that doesn't have a computer, theres something special about that.

Yes; Tag Heuer Link with black face. Goes well with the M3 Convertible.

You can't beat a Seiko - they are the watch equivalent of a Toyota

If I had more money than I knew what to do with I would get an IWC (International Watches of Switzerland) timepiece.

The pilots watch in racing green...very classy and understated...I would enjoy wearing that one very much indeed.
